A besieged city during the war, Sarajevo was heavily bombed and destroyed by the Serbs. Indeed, this crossroad of 3 religions is absolutely worth the trip. It has a bazaar, old churches, mosques, orthodox churches and impressive cemeteries overseeing the entire city. It was also here that WW I started with the assassination of the archiduke Ferdinand from Austria by an indoctrinated revolutionary. That war would strip Austria of everything and Sarajevo would then severe ties with the former Austro-Hungarian empire.
Very interesting : the tunnel going under the airport that allowed the city to be supplied with everything, from electrical current to water, food and ammunition. The owner of that house is still leading the visits and he’s definitely the city’s hero.
