It’s the symbol of the city and THE place to visit when you get there. You’ve to cross a gigantic place where the chinese flag is taken off every evening and people then chased off right afterwards. The forbidden city arbors proudly Mao picture in its center clearly meaning that communism primes on an empire’s history of 1500 years.
Anyway, the place is HUGE. You’ll spend a day here without having seen everything in details. Well there’s not that much to see as every court looks similar to the previous one but indeed the walks around it are nice and you’ve a lot to read to follow and understand where you are. Nice to see too is the hill behind the palace that oversees the entire area. The flower garden at its base is worth a visit too. Usually the spot is crowded so better get there early.
