When in Croatia, you can’t miss out this place. It’s overcrowded in summer but this former competitor to Venezia is definitely worth the trip. The view from the fort on the hill is breathtaking. It is from there that in 1992 the city was defended with a few old guns and minimal equipment against the invading soldiers from Montenegro. Happily not much was destroyed but the scars are there.
