Ever heard of the former Berlin Wall ? Well here’s another one. And it’s not going to fall, oh no. The greeks lost half of the island in 1974 and now the occupied area by Turkey is thriving while the greek part is in dire times. The UN is keeping an eye on the DMZ that splits the island in two parts and so far this is some kind of a shizophrenic place. The greeks don’t cross, the turks either but the tourists come & go.
While the island is quite small, the distances in the mountains are endless. You can drive for hours and get lost on top. Small roads full of stones and no signs. Its northern part is really nice but the weather is better in the south by far.
