Croatia has its own style of houses and in the area south of Zagreb, there’s a particular one that strikes the visitor at first sight. Made of wood, these traditional constructions are charming. Quite large sometimes, they’re actually closer to the american style of housing than the european one. Well decorated, with 2 stories, the design is solid and holds for more than a 100 years. Many are dated around the beginning of the century and are still perfectly standing.
One spot is particularly covered exclusively by Cardak houses : Lonsko Polje. A hidden, beautiful protected area, that was defined as a natural park a few years ago. People still live there in the original houses which is now no longer the case for the area closer to the countries capital.
