Urbex à Aincourt
A friend pointed me recently at an offer from Olympus to test their new cams on site through nice little trips on spots like Urbex, caves, theaters, gardens etc.
I immediately opted for the Urbex trip and booked a tour. Meeting was at 10am at the FNAC Shop from St Lazare/Paris. Nice welcome, got a test cam, a battery and – good suprise – an SD card of 8GB offered for free. Then a 1 hour van ride took us to Aincourt, a famous Urbex spot in the north western outskirts of Paris.
The spot itself is a former asylum but its very clean & safe. The light was not optimal for outside pictures but created good lighting inside. We had little bit more than an hour to try these little toys and actually they’re really good. I brought my Sony Alpha Mark II to do some comparisons and I must admit that the little Olympuses were full of features to brighten up the experience. Indeed the lenses we were given were no match for my new Sigma 18-35 f1.8 lens but the little 12-50mm f3.5 I had was ok. Micro 4/3rds have a 2x multiplying factor so it was actually a 24-100 which comes in handy for most of the shots.
The spot itself was pretty empty but gave multiple occasions to get some nice shots & angles. Despite the fact that this is a very well known urbex spot I never had the occasion to go there so I was quite happy to end up there so unexpectedly.
Cherry on the cake was the fact that once we were back, I could join again and only minutes later another tour that went to another spot. I’ll comment that one in another post. In the meantime enjoy the pics !
