Cyprus – Aphrodite’s birthplace
Cyprus is a strange place. Plain greek culture but cut into half in 1974, under english control and influence…this island has not finished being in trouble. The turkish side is way cheaper than the EU part of the island and it’s really worth spending time on that part of the island. Turkish food is delicious and very affordable. The turks are much more welcoming than the cypriots who are used to serve as the english riviera in summer. Coastlines and architecture is rather ugly and you’ve to search for sweet spots like Aphrodite’s birthplace to chill and enjoy the place.
Weird is the green line that crosses through Nicosia and all the island, under strong UN surveillance, and that will probably remain as is. A country cut into half, waiting to reunite on an improbable day.
